Devin Davis  four poems

"John"

hemorrhage,
red as a miracle--

cardinal ...
bathing in the baptismal.

i am imparting
head;

and you weep,
and it too is a miracle--

affirmed in rome.
there's certainty ...

some
similarity.

who will laugh?
because we have given

up
hope.

"Frost"

lots of robins
seen, beating wings ...

... a couple
sitting together on a limb,

warming themselves
in the dawn sun.

but it's dusk,
just west of us;

and these birds were
facing orange stone
to the north--

they are dying leaves,
attached to a branch.

... i am wrong,
about a great many things.

himalayas

bundled,
after a mild clash,

the wife & i skate
thick ice

--at least it feels
like that;

with cement
underneath,

we do the twist.
yeah, i'm "chubby fucker;"

and she's
my hired sherpa,
making her way,

on a frozen january morning,
to ensure no students at college
fall through cracks in the library.

laughing ...
we know, by noon,
all this slick whiteness
will thaw.

punctuating as a second language, iv

a comma is a tale
that stretches with clauses,
& catches the tongue;

sometimes, unintentionally,
changes your meaning--

a mouse,
turning into mouth.

but, the truth is, i'm never sure
when to use this mark; or why,

since it would be better
to order your words properly and, thus,

avoid the condition.
